This is a fantastic book! The illustrations by P.J.Lynch are superb and the story is historical and sweet.

Jessie is a girl from an undisclosed European country and a Jewish community. Her life is explained as difficult and she lives alone with her grandmother. By the choice of her local Rabbi she is given the opportunity to go to America. Here she works in a sewing shop, and goes to school to learn English. As time passes she reconnects with a young man she had met on her voyage to America. She carefully saves from her earnings to pay for her Grandmother to be with her in America so she can be present on her wedding day.

Delightful, meaningful, and beautiful! A great addition to home school reading for history.
